Dallas ZOOM! Whitening

ZOOM! is a bleaching process widely used in dental offices around the world to lighten any discoloration of your enamel and dentin. Teeth discoloration is a common occurrence as you age, if you enjoy drinking coffee, tea, cola, and red wine, or if you are a smoker. Bleaching can remove these stains and can even whiten the natural pigment of your teeth to make them brighter than they have ever been before.

Consultation & Treatment Planning

Dr. Vargas will conduct a check-up of your teeth and gums to ensure they are in proper health. Your oral hygiene and lifestyle habits will also be discussed. This is done in order to determine if ZOOM! in-office teeth whitening will benefit you. Any leaky fillings, open cavities, or hypersensitive roots will need to be taken care of prior to bleaching. If you have crowns or fillings in highly visible places, please note that these will not bleach. Once you and Dr. Vargas are in agreement, you will move ahead with the whitening treatment plan.

If you are planning restorations or cosmetic dental procedures on your front teeth, Dr. Vargas may suggest teeth whitening before you start. Please note that crowns and veneers will not respond to conventional whitening agents, but the teeth around them can. So if you’re unhappy with the color of the teeth, you’ll want to whiten them first. Then Dr. Vargas can match your restorations to the new whiter color.

The ZOOM! Procedure

If ZOOM! is in your best interest, Dr. Vargas recommends regular teeth cleaning prior to the whitening session. To start the procedure, the lips and gums are prepared and covered, leaving the teeth exposed. Next, Dr. Vargas’s dental assistant will apply the ZOOM! hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. This gel works together with the ZOOM! light to break up any stains and discoloration by penetrating deep into the teeth.

The gel is applied for three sessions of light activation at 20 minutes each. During this time, you can listen to music or watch one of our flat-screen TVs. The total treatment time is about an hour.

Aftercare

For best long-term results, try to avoid certain pigmented foods and beverages, including tea, coffee, red wine, and cola. If you simply cannot avoid these foods, please consume them in moderation. If you use tobacco products, these will also stain your teeth. In the interest of your oral health, we suggest you quit using them to maintain both whitening results and healthy oral hygiene. Also, come back in and see us regularly for your scheduled teeth cleanings.

Things to Consider

The ZOOM! light produces minimal heat, so sensitivity may occur during treatment. Any tingling sensations immediately after the procedure always dissipate. Using an anti-sensitivity toothpaste prior to treatment can help lessen sensitivity during the procedure.

ZOOM! is not recommended for women who are pregnant or lactating or children under 13 years of age. Since everyone’s mouth is unique, whitening treatment results may vary, but Dr. Vargas will take many factors into consideration in order to get you the best result possible.
